Due to the low visibility in deep water areas and the lack of reference objects in the surrounding area, divers often struggle to accurately identify their own location during underwater operations such as salvage and rescue, and cannot determine the relative position between themselves and the work vessel or salvage target, which poses certain difficulties for underwater operations. To improve the efficiency of underwater search operations and achieve real-time monitoring of divers by commanders, it is necessary to equip an underwater navigation and positioning system to accurately locate the absolute position of divers and guide them in underwater operations.

The Underwater Positioning System  generally consists of ultra short baseline underwater acoustic positioning system (USBL), navigation attitude measurement system, GPS system, and diving navigation system.
